1. Introduction
Zoí PetCare Ai (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Zoí PetCare Ai (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. This Policy works together with our Terms of Service.
We designed the App to help pet parents organize care — not to sell your personal information. We collect only what we need to provide the features you use. Some features (for example shop or subscription management) may be temporarily unavailable; if you do not use a feature, we generally do not collect data unique to that feature.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways: (a) information you provide, (b) information generated when you use the App, and (c) information from your device with your permission.
- Account information: email address, display name, profile photo, sign-in method (email/password or Google), account identifiers created by our authentication provider, and account-deletion scheduling fields when you request deletion.
- Pet profiles: pet name, species/type, breed, age or date of birth, gender, weight and height/measurements you enter, photos, feeding preferences and food types, allergies, health conditions, medications, activity level and activity goals (such as walk and play schedules), target goals and target weight, personality traits you select, and related care settings.
- Health & care records: vaccinations, vet visits, parasite prevention and treatments, home-care schedules and completions, weight history, health scores and insights, trophies / achievement unlocks, uploaded health documents (certificates, prescriptions, lab results, etc.), prescription notes or AI-assisted explanations you review and save, and other notes you add.
- Routines, nutrition & reminders: daily routine completions, meal/water/walk/pill and related logs, feeding logs and calorie estimates, scheduled reminders (including shopping lists), and accountability preferences you set.
- Photos & scans: pet photos, food photos for calorie estimation, health document images, missing-pet alert photos, and optional screenshots or images attached to feedback.
- Location information: approximate city or area (for nearby friend discovery and public profile area), GPS coordinates when you grant location permission (for maps, weather-related suggestions, lost/found pet alerts, place search near you, live walk tracking, and — if you enable Nearby Friends — publishing your live location for friends). See Section 3.
- Walk session data: when you start live walk tracking, we store session details such as status (active/paused/completed), distance progressed, goal distance, timestamps, and recent GPS coordinates needed to continue or restore the session. Walk progress is associated with your account and pet.
- Community & social data: friend connections (including per-pet friendships), friend requests, chat messages, invite or share links you create, public pet summaries (name, type, photo, emoji), public owner summary (display name, photo, general area), discovery hints for multi-pet friend requests, and content you post in community or missing-pet features (descriptions, reward info, contact details you choose to share).
- Device & usage data: device type, operating system, app version, push notification token, notification preferences (sound, vibration, quiet hours / do-not-disturb, preview, badge), in-app events (such as screen views and feature usage capped per day for product improvement), and technical logs needed to operate and secure the service.
- Support submissions: text and images you send through Help & Feedback → Send Feedback.
3. Location Data & Walk Tracking
Location is sensitive. We request location permission only to provide features that need it. You can deny or revoke permission in your device settings; some features will then be limited or unavailable.
Maps & places: With permission, we use your location (or a place you search) to show nearby vets, shops, groomers, parks, weather-related tips, and directions. Search queries and coordinates may be sent to mapping or places providers as described in Section 6.
Live walk tracking: When you explicitly start a walk session, the App may collect GPS updates while the session is active so we can estimate distance, show progress toward your pet’s walk goal, power on-device walk UI (such as ongoing notifications or live activities where supported), and restore an interrupted session. You can pause or end tracking at any time. Walk session documents are readable and writable only by your account (not by other users).
Nearby Friends / community visibility: If you turn on Show in Nearby Friends (or equivalent community visibility) in Settings → Privacy & Security, the App may write your current live location while the App is open so that users you have friended can see your pet on the map and receive nearby alerts. When you turn this off, leave the relevant screens, or sign out as designed by the App, we stop publishing and delete or clear the current live-location document used for that feature. We do not use Nearby Friends live location as a continuous always-on tracker when the feature is off.
We do not sell your precise location. Location accuracy depends on your device and environment and is not guaranteed.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the App and the features you request, including:
- Creating and syncing your account and pet profiles across sessions and devices.
- Scheduling and delivering local reminders and push notifications (friend requests, chat messages, routine alerts, and similar), respecting your notification sound, preview, badge, and quiet-hour preferences where implemented.
- Generating personalized care suggestions, daily targets, feeding plans, health scores, home-care due items, trophies, personality-aware tips, and on-device learning adjustments based on your pet’s profile and logged activity.
- Powering map, schedule, nutrition, health records, walk tracking, friends, messaging, Help Center, and — when offered — shop or subscription features.
- Enabling friend discovery, pet profile share links, messaging, and missing-pet alerts you choose to use.
- Publishing limited public summaries so other signed-in users can discover pets, open share links, and send friend requests without accessing your private health vault.
- Processing password-reset codes and authenticating Google sign-in through our secure backend.
- Analyzing aggregated or pseudonymous usage patterns to fix bugs, improve reliability, and develop new features.
- Responding to support requests and enforcing our Terms of Service.
- Complying with legal obligations and protecting the security and integrity of the App.
5. AI & Automated Processing
Some features use artificial intelligence or automated analysis. When you use these features, relevant content (such as a food photo, health document image, or chat question) may be sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a response.
Current AI-assisted features may include food calorie or ingredient estimation from photos, health document text extraction or summarization, prescription explanation suggestions you can edit before saving, and nutrition-related chat or search assistance.
Personality summaries and many care tips are generated from traits and profile fields you select, using in-app logic; they are not veterinary assessments.
AI outputs are estimates for informational purposes only. They are not veterinary medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified veterinarian for medical decisions.
We do not use your content to train public AI models on your behalf. Third-party AI providers process data according to their own terms and policies. Where possible, we send only the minimum content needed for the feature you requested.
7. Data Storage & Retention
Your account data, pet records, walk sessions, and uploaded files are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage), typically in United States or other regions where Firebase operates. Data is associated with your user account until you delete it or request deletion.
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. We may retain certain data longer when required for legal compliance, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, security backups, or enforcement of our Terms.
Local data: Some preferences and temporary caches (such as notification sound settings or in-progress walk progress for reliability) may also be stored on your device using local storage. Clearing app data or uninstalling may remove local copies; cloud copies remain until deleted with your account.
If you delete your account in the App, your data is scheduled for permanent removal after a 30-day grace period (see Section 8). If you contact us to request deletion instead, we process verified requests within a reasonable timeframe, subject to the same legal retention exceptions.
When deletion is completed, we delete or anonymize your information (including public summaries, live location, pets, health records, messages where feasible, and related content) except where retention is legally required or technically necessary (for example, short-term backups or records we must keep by law).
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
You can take many actions directly in the App. Account deletion is available in two ways: (1) immediately in Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete account, or (2) by contacting us through Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback if you prefer assistance or cannot access the App.
- View and update your profile, pet profiles (including personality traits and goals), health records, home care, reminders, and notification settings in Settings and related screens.
- Toggle community / Nearby Friends visibility in Settings → Privacy & Security to control live-location publishing for friends.
- Choose whether to share pet profile links; only limited public summaries are exposed to other signed-in users who open them.
- Start, pause, or end live walk tracking at any time; revoke location or notification permissions in your device settings (some features may stop working).
- Adjust notification sound, vibration, preview, badge, and quiet hours in Settings → Notifications where available.
- Sign out of your account at any time from Settings.
- Delete your account in Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete account. After you confirm, your account and data (pets, health records, photos, reminders, walk sessions, messages, public summaries, and related content) are scheduled for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period, and you will be signed out.
- During the 30-day grace period, sign in again, accept the Terms of Service, and confirm that you want to restore your account to cancel deletion and keep your data.
- After 30 days, deletion is final. If you sign in again, the App treats you as a new user and you must create your profile and pets from scratch.
- Alternatively, contact us via Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback to request account deletion, data access, correction, or export. Include “Account Deletion” or “Privacy Request” and the email linked to your account so we can verify your identity.
- For Google sign-in accounts, you may also manage some Google account permissions through your Google Account settings.
9. Security Measures
We take the security of your information seriously and implement measures designed to protect it, including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for data in transit between the App and our servers.
- Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in and industry-standard password handling.
- Firestore and Storage security rules that restrict access so users can read and write only their own data (and permitted shared data such as conversations they participate in, public summaries, or friend live location when visibility is enabled).
- Server-side secrets stored in Google Secret Manager for sensitive backend operations (such as OAuth and email delivery).
- Access controls limiting who on our team can access production systems.
10. Security — Important Limitations
No method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for the accuracy of information you enter. Use a strong, unique password and sign out on shared devices.
Health and pet data you store in the App is sensitive. Treat it with the same care you would any personal health information, even though the App is not a HIPAA-covered medical provider.
Anything you choose to share publicly or with friends (photos, share links, live location, alert contact details) may be seen, copied, or forwarded by those recipients. Share carefully.
11. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age without verifiable parental consent.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us personal information without consent, contact us through Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback and we will take steps to delete that information.
In the United States, we aim to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable. Users under 18 should use the App with a parent or guardian’s supervision.
12. International Users & Legal Rights
Zoí PetCare Ai may operate globally. If you use the App from outside your home country, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries (including the United States) that may have different data protection laws than your own.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights:
- European Economic Area / UK (GDPR): Rights may include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): California residents may have rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law. Certain disclosures for friend features or ads (if we ever introduce them) would be described here and in-product where required.
- Cameroon and other regions: We respect applicable local privacy laws. Contact us to exercise rights available in your jurisdiction.
- To exercise rights not available in-app (or if you need help with deletion, access, or correction), contact us via Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback. You may use the in-app Delete account button in Privacy & Security for self-service deletion, or contact us if you prefer we assist you.
13. Third-Party Links & Services
The App may contain links to third-party websites, app stores, maps, or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review their policies before providing information to them.
Sign-in with Google is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy. Push notifications are delivered through Expo’s infrastructure. AI features are subject to the policies of the AI provider used for that request. Map and places features are subject to the applicable Google Maps / Places or OpenStreetMap policies.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may be communicated in the App or by other reasonable means.
Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Policy, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
15. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, contact us through Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback in the App, or email contact@zoípetcareai.com.
For account deletion, you may use Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete account (self-service, with a 30-day grace period and optional restore) or contact us through Send Feedback if you need assistance. For data access, correction, export, or other privacy requests, include “Privacy Request” or “Account Deletion” and the email address linked to your account so we can verify and respond.
We will respond to legitimate requests within a reasonable timeframe, typically within 30 days where required by law.
You can also use our data deletion help page.
